This video and article caught my eye on the Wired Science blog, which commonly features articles accompanied with a video or picture explaining the topic.
The article describes the discovery of another uncontacted tribe living in the Amazon jungle that has never been exposed to the outside world. At first, only aerial photographs were taken showing the tribe looking up at whatever was taking the pictures in fear and astonishment. After the pictures were published an aerial video was shot, providing much more of an impact on how important it is to keep these tribes safe. Jose Carlos Morales who works for Brazils Indian Affairs department decided to shoot the pictures and video to convince the government that these tribes do exist in the forests, and that their lives need to be protected. By using this form of new media, he attempts to gain support to keep the outside world out of the area. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but showing these people live in action with a video leaves much more of an emotional impact.

Thank you MaryLou for writing about this topic. My first initial interest for a major in college was Anthropology so I find this very insightful. I read about this hidden tribe also and thought how secluded they were from the world-except the world can still find a way to recognize them. With cameras and the internet, people around the world now know they exist in their own private world. I also think about how they have never been familiar with technology and that they are all content otherwise. For me I couldn’t see my life without some form of technology and for them they have no idea what it’s like to own a cell phone. Sometimes taking a step back into time can make you realize how fortunate we all are to be technologically advanced.
